How to Make Homemade Icing for Cinnamon Rolls

Our cinnamon roll icing recipe is a simple mixture of cream cheese, butter, sugar, and flavoring. These fresh and simple ingredients when combined transform into pure deliciousness.

The most important tip is to be sure the butter and cream cheese are softened at room temperature. If you melt the butter, the frosting will not have a creamy texture.

Cinnamon Roll Icing Recipe

This recipe makes enough icing for 12-15 cinnamon rolls.

Ingredients

  • 6 ounces cream cheese (softened)
  • 1/3 cup salted butter (softened)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract or maple extract

 

Instructions 

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine butter and cream cheese with a hand mixer. Mix until combined well.
  2. Add in the vanilla or maple extract and powdered sugar and mix well.
  3. Spread the frosting on top of the cinnamon rolls.
  4. Store leftovers in an airtight container inside the refrigerator.
