Add butter to a saucepan over medium heat. When butter melts, add onion and sauté until translucent and tender.
Add corn kernels and cook until thoroughly warmed; add milk, cream cheese, and heavy cream, bring to a gentle simmer and continue until sauce thickens.
Sprinkle thyme, pepper, and salt, cook for another 2 minutes and remove from heat.
Blend the mixture using an immersion blender until you get the desired consistency.
