In a pot, add rice and pour water.
Place star anise in it along with salt and sugar.
Place the pot over medium heat and seal it with a lid.
Let the water come to a boil.
Once the water starts to boil, reduce the heat to medium-low. Don’t take the lid off.
Let it cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until the water is soaked.
Turn off the heat and let the rice sit for 5 minutes without taking off the lid.
Fluff it up using a fork, remove the star anise and serve.
