How to Cook Black Beans Without Soaking

Preparation time: 2 minutes; Cooking Time: 1 hour 15 minutes; Total Time: 1 hour 17 minutes; Servings: 4

Ingredients
  

  • 1 ¼ cups dry black beans
  • 2 ½ cups water
  • Salt to taste

Instructions
 

  • Pour water into a Dutch oven over medium heat. Add black beans and salt, and bring to a boil.
  • Then reduce heat to low and allow the mixture to simmer.
  • Cover the Dutch oven and leave to simmer for 1 ½ hours.
  • Stir the beans occasionally and as they start to become visible above the liquid, add a cup of water. Repeat this step as needed.
  • Check the taste and consistency of the beans throughout the cooking process. They should have a creamy texture on the inside and a firm exterior. If the bean liquid is too watery, let it simmer for a few more minutes with the lid off.
  • When beans are ready, remove them from the heat and transfer them to the serving bowls.
