  • When using cornbread mix, be sure to add an egg to every cup of mix. This will help the Hush Puppies bind together and be less crumbly.
  • Let the batter rest for a few minutes before frying to give the cornmeal a chance to absorb the liquid. This will result in light and fluffy Hush Puppies.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan when frying them, and this will result in them not being as crispy as you’d like.
  • Be sure to fry your Hush Puppies in hot oil so that they cook evenly and become nice and crispy on the outside.
  • Once they are done frying, drain them on a paper towel-lined plate so that any excess oil is absorbed.
